Hello there. One hell of a week, huh? I've totally failed my 31 teen scream films thing on the movie blog, I still have hopes to do the top 10 but I have like 14 gaps between the start of the challenge and the end. It's no big deal because no one's reading them and I'm also writing them so maniacally they are probably kinda hard to read. I decided to pre-write everything from here on out. Finally I actually know what blogging challenges exist and don't have to find out about them last second. I don't feel really bad for not doing anything for Inktober because no prompt list really inspired me this year. Feeling much more excited for either Fairyary or Magical March next year. Anyway! That's like way in the future, what about now? Well...
Beginning the week!
Monday I was still feeling sick from the weekend and didn't go to class. However, because no one went grocery shopping I dropped by our grocery store. Saw some really cute boots for about 40 euros but they didn't fit me because I'm short and fat. Basically no boots are made for my particular proportions of the leg, so the boot is too slim too low because bootmakers assume every girl is 1m75 and have calves that start sky high. Very sad.
My brother made hot dogs. They looked so fancy, at least to me. I got mine with ketchup, mustard, and some diced onion. It was delicious and I'm usually not a hot dog fan.
Dogs!
Also visited Alice's Avocado Records, best emo site in town. Otherwise I was busy with finding Xbox games for us, here's some I got that I'm personally excited to try:
Always wanted to play, never had the game!
It's a classic.
Never played the 2nd one.
Trying Halo for the first time at age 26 LOL.
I heard it's funny.
Am in love with her.
On Tuesday I went to class at last, feeling sort of better. Maria was finally back, she's been having issues with her back but she seems to be feeling a little better. We're still waiting for some government organization to send her a special chair. Her and the teacher keep joking that they should have asked for a throne. Anyway, we were making yet another poster, this time for the 25th of November which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
They started yesterday but didn't get past the idea stage because I suspect they were waiting for me. Again, I wish we could have some adult art classes so adults wouldn't be so scared to put some crayon to paper and go wack. Some ideas were a little... strong? Like one proposal was to have a woman's face with a bruise and blood dripping. I thought that seemed a little insensitive but we had a domestic abuse survivor in our midst who was fine with it so it's really her call.
I made a poster with Hamza and Veronika again but everyone chipped in. It was black and white only and sort of like a comic. I tried to keep it less graphic and mostly just really bold out the emergency phone line for shelters and associations that could help. Then we had to present our posters and I actually felt okay going on for a while even though I know I made a lot of mistakes. For dinner I made pork chops.
Dinner~!
Wednesday was my non-class day. My sister and mum went to another town to pick up my sister's travel doc. Sadly it was not the actual doc but just biometrics. Due to this bad planning they had to postpone their trip to Barcelona and cancel their Monetochka tickets which is really sad because my sister really wanted to go and she hasn't been on a vacation for a while now too.
I also almost made them late for the train because I begged my mum to drop by the local bookstore to pick up Deftones' Around The Fur. I know it's wrong, but it's Deftones! They still made it back on time.
Also, our family friends, Jean Louis and Minou, dropped off some old tech the day before that I finally set up. It included a DVD/CD player set that I sadly could not connect to the TV. However, I was able to get the CD player to work with the subwoofer. There was only one cable, which I split in half, exposed the wire and attached both speakers to the subwoofer with these little clasps mechanism that were there. The player is sick, it lights up a lovely blue and green!
Woah!
They also dropped off a CD rack, which is perfect because I was starting to run out of space on my shelf.
Always room for more!
I also finally put up my Star Wars poster too.
I had a buddy who burnt his eyes out watching this...
Cat.
On Thursday we finished up the posters and Aicha told us that the other class that shares the building with us, those who are learning how to use computers, couldn't come up with any ideas for posters and that's without communication issues because they're all French speakers. And we managed three posters with our always grammatically challenged international collective. Hurray! I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty burned out from poster making. For lunch I risked it and bought a "taco" instead of my usual and instantly regretted it. Never try new things. I did start season 3 of Buffy though so that was nice.
All three posters.
Hamza's poster.
My poster.
The ... really direct one?
On Friday I was supposed to go to class and from there to a special meeting with everyone in relation to Octobre Rose. Sadly I was feeling super sick and didn't make it. Instead me and Mo started Halo Combat Evolved and yes, we actually like it a lot. All those years of trashing Halo for nothing! Don't get me wrong I still think Halo and Mass Effect look super generic but the music is so good. And the War Hog is fun so all is forgiven.
Dry as hell.
On Saturday I was feeling sort of better. I went out to get snacks with Tom and Mo as we were supposed to study at our house. We convinced Tom to one match of Modern Warfare and we was all like: "Okay, but just one match!" Anyway, we played like 6 or 7 matches and then played a bunch of Modern Warfare 3. Then we also played a whole lotta rounds of Blur. We ended up studying for exactly zero minutes.
We've been spoiled this week.
I was not feeling good on Sunday, sneezing and coughing a lot. Sort of worked on my site, I started the 2022 art page but didn't finish. Feel pretty overwhelmed. Did retrieve my lava lamp, I can finally use it now that I have my own room and it rocks! Thought I broke it for a second but it's all good. The movie blog has totally collapsed. I think I'll still write the top 10 and do the middle chunk I skipped at my own pace. Again, not pre-writing has failed me.
I did break the law this week though. I watched YouTube videos. However! They were selective and I can count them on one hand. First, the Dan and Phil they are together actually reveal all along. I'm not the most active viewer now and at their peak, like 2012 I guess, I really liked them but I wasn't involved in the fandom at all. I learned about the horrific invasions into their privacy much later. Honestly, it may have been obvious but good for them, they're one of my few childhood faves who didn't turn out to be some kind of freak or loser (looking at you, Cryaotic). Me and my brother also watched the new videogamedunkey video on the new Battlefield. Holy balls, man, 300,000 person long queues? Fuck off! Yeah, it was insane. I did listen to music on YouTube too but listened more on radio. Watched many tutorial videos for the 360 exploit but I don't count those because I didn't have one iota of fun watching them. On Sunday I watched the New York mayoral debates via Hasanabi, he had Gianmarco Soresi on! How cool! But that's about it. I'll probably give myself permission to watch some things on the weekend but not during the week. Not watching YouTube everyday hasn't changed my life or anything but it really removed some noticeable pressure.
End of week 42.
This Week I'm Excited For...
I'm excited to try out a solo/journal RPG in a notebook. It's something I've literally done as a kid all the time minus the dice. Now I'm gonna go to war with the dice! And the rule book! I'm trying the Ironsworn rules, I got bored of the default world and races so I'll probably make my own.
Song Of The Week...
We're getting a little different today, but since we started Halo Combat Evolved, I've been totally enamored with the music. There's so many good tracks, but my favourite probably is A Walk In The Woods. It's such a strange track, but it's so groovy yet space-y, when I first heard it in the game I was totally taken aback, but in a good way.
Wah my Luigis! So, so late. I know, just when I promised things would get done around here the entire foundation goes crumbling down. For anyone keeping up with my blog, yes, this entry comes a whole 2 week late... life ain't easy or convenient and sadly is not structured around my blogging which it really should be. Everything would be serene and super slow-paced. It's been a little rough, there's been a lot to do in my personal life and in relation to starting work soon. So I've been a mess, never been a multitasker and now that I know that actually multitasking, i.e. doing two demanding things at once, is impossible, I'm not even going to try. Without further ado, here's some pics and text.
Start of the week...
Monday was a nice and sunny day. In the morning I went to our outlet store and found a number of cute things that I blogged about today on finnymemo. Spent time by the river in the town where I have classes. There were many people out and about. Fishermen, cyclists, a dog. Got some really nice pics of the place:
Very nice underpass.
Tuesday I got all dressed up with my polka skirt and totally overestimated the cold. I was way overdressed. Stopped by a random store where I wanted to buy a key chain but didn't have a euro in cash and they didn't accept card. Some lovely gent offered to pay for it but I said I could always just come back. Turns out they do accept card so I just bought it then. Some people are really nice though, it's pretty reassuring. Spied some ugly Halloween decor there too and had my lunch on my fave bench.
Spooks.
What was I thinking?!
Wednesday I spent most of the day finishing the Deftones fanlisting. I've tried many options and couldn't' settle til the last minute. Finally I did and finished it up, not totally happy with the results but it's alright.
On Thursday I had a really long ass day. As many of you know it's breast cancer awareness month and our teacher did warn us ahead that we'd be making some posters for the event and the building in general. So it was the day. It was pretty easy to work with everyone, everyone chipped in but as soon as I started drawing and people saw my ability I guess something weird happened. They kind of kept asking me what to do at every step. I was always telling them to do whatever they wanted or felt would be best. Like when they couldn't decide what colours to use and stuff but everyone hesitated. Felt sad that adults are so reserved in creative expression. Anyone can draw or colour, we're not doing brain surgery or something. Mistakes won't cost lives. I almost want adult art classes to be available for everyone now.
Planning stage.
Working hard or hardly workin'?
I had a ridiculous lunch. So I've gotten really lazy lately and I just buy one of those microwaveable pastas, specifically the cheese and chicken variant. It's cheaper and tastes better. But they didn't have it today! So I ended up buying chicken ham and just a three cheese pasta. Then I microwaved it and torn up way too much chicken ham into it to create my monster hybrid lunch. It tasted fine but felt like a crime somehow. I did get everyone jaffa cakes though so that was good.
Cursed lunch.
On Friday we finished up our posters and put them up in the hallway. Everyone was very impressed. I think we did a really good job, especially working together. Even Veronika who often slacks off a little did her part and helped a lot with colouring. It was a good time. And obviously if you have free healthcare and check ups, please go and use that shit up! Girls, transfolk, enbies, go get your titties checked!
How I woke up.
Fishin'.
I helped to draw the girl on this one.
Poster I mostly worked on.
Saturday I was just unproductive but it must have been in part because I was getting sick as by the evening I felt like shit. I'm almost half way through the season 2 of Buffy. I watched season 1 ages ago and for some reason I didn't really like it but season 2 is soooo good. I love Kendra and Oz, they are probably my faves.
On Sunday I got really busy trying to figure out how to make the BadUpdate exploit work on our Xbox. See, we got a Winchester model: good thing is that it won't overheat as much as the original slims, bad thing is we can't hardmod it. Honestly, I really didn't want to anyway. I don't have any soldering equipment and I don't know anyone who has some I could borrow. We're a big power tools household right now. Either way I will just wait for a permanent softmod to eventually develop and just do that. The BadUpdate exploit has been made leagues more efficient sometime this summer and while I wasn't checking up some legend from the Nintendo hacking scene made the exploit run through the avatar screen instead of RockBand Blitz. A real hero.
Anyway, after a billion attempts I got the exploit to run and we were able to load into whatever CFW we wanted, I chose Aurora like most. We had a new problem where something was really fucked with the formatting and I couldn't read my drive on PC. Sucks. I'll work on that. Anyway, I did manage to test out Forza Horizon on it as it's one of my brother's fave Xbox 360 games. We played it all evening and even had fun dressing him up as like a really broke version of Ryan Gosling from Drive.
He drives.
So that was my week. In between all that I was also juggling weird appointments that kept getting cancelled and re-instated and so on. I'll also be working at the kiwi farms on the 30th and 31st so I had to tell Aicha that I would be finishing the program up earlier.
End of week 41.
This Week I'm Excited For...
To get some damn games on the 360 and start playing them! We'll finally try out Halo as long time Halo shit-talkers. I mean that mildly, we just find Halo to look kind of generic next to other sci-fi franchises but I'm sure we're going to like it anyway. Also I want to get Bullet Witch and maybe DarkSector or something like that.
Song Of The Week...
Alice sent me a super cute quiz map thing about throwing the perfect house party and I got Milky's Just The Way You Are. I was literally looking for this song because I couldn't remember the name! I think it's only fair to make it my song of the week and thank you, Alice!
